Here’s why Republicans should block Obama from appointing a new Justice to the Supreme Court

The Republicans are right to block Obama from appointing a new Justice to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court left by the death of Antonin Scalia.

Obama and the Democrats have in last 7 years shoved enough liberalism down the throats of Americans without giving them a say in the matter.

Obamacare was forced on the American people. It has raised their health care premiums and their deductibles. It has curbed innovation in health care making new life saving drugs and procedures more scarce and more expensive.  It has lowered the quality and availability of health care in general and will continue to do so. It has made health insurance more expensive.  Obamacare is turning out to be a massive shift of wealth from the middle class to fat-cat insurance companies.

Obama has opened the southern border of the United States to low-paid unskilled illegal immigrants taking jobs from Americans who, contrary to popular belief, are very willing to do those jobs just not at the low wage illegals are willing to work for. The whole thing is another Obama crony capitalism ploy that shifts wealth from the middle and lower classes to employers who hire illegal workers. The Chamber of Commerce is delighted. Americans who want to return to the dignity of work get screwed.

Through regulations promulgated by rogue administrative agencies such as the EPA, and through his misuse of executive orders, Obama has loaded more and more liberalism onto the backs of Americans. As a direct result of Obama policies more and more Americans are no longer working and see little hope of ever returning to the work force. Food stamps are not a substitute for the self esteem gained through the self-actualizing majesty of pride of self sufficiency.  I used the word “self” three times in that sentence. It was intentional, to make the point that each of us has something important at stake here. That something is our sense of self, our persona, identity, character, personality, soul, spirit and mind. None of those precious gifts of a good life comes from a welfare check. A welfare check will never allow someone to rise out of poverty. Instead, it makes poverty a permanent condition.

The voters shouted out in the off-year elections of 2010 and 2014 that they don’t want anymore of Obama’s liberal policies affecting their lives. In those elections they gave Republicans solid majorities in both the House (2010) and the Senate (2014). The wanted Republicans to put the brakes on all the Obamaism that was being forced upon them.

Unfortunately, the Republican leadership, the establishment, largely failed to keep the promises they made to their voters in 2010 and 2014. Once elected and comfortably in their seats of power they snubbed their noses at the very people who sent them to Washington. Instead of stopping Obama, as the people wanted them to do, they were often seen to be helping Obama implement his liberal agenda.

At last, there seems to be some hope that the Republican establishment has awakened to the anger they have caused by their failure to simply do their jobs, namely to be the political opposition and not the lap dogs of Democrats. The Republicans are now saying they will block confirmation in the Senate of any new court appointee that Obama sends to them.

The Republicans should absolutely block Obama’s liberal appointment; Ted Cruz absolutely should filibuster any new appointee by Obama, as he has vowed to do.

Here’s the reason that will be the right thing to do: The people must be let back into the political process. The people have been shut out for 7 years.* By allowing the next president, the one that wins the election in November of this year, the people will be allowed to say what sort of person should be the new Justice to fill Antonin Scalia’s seat on the Supreme Court. By whom they choose for president the people will have said whether they want another liberal who will trample the Constitution and take away more of the rights of the American people, or whether they want a Justice who will adhere to the rule of law and the Constitution and protect their rights.

It is fitting and proper that We The People, in order to form a more perfect union, be allowed to speak, through our votes for the next President.

“The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty, and the destiny of the republican model of government, are justly considered as deeply, perhaps as finally staked, on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people.” — George Washington

UPDATE: Democrat Chuck Shumer said in 2007 that the Senate should refuse to confirm any Bush appointments to the Supreme Court.

UPDATE II: Democrats in Senate passed a resolution in 1960 against election year Supreme Court appointments

*I can hear what some are thinking. Didn’t the people elect Obama in 2008 and re-elect him in 2012?  Yes, Mr. New Castrati, they did. But, here’s the thing.

The Republican establishment allowed the Democrats and their accomplices in the national media to choose their presidential candidate in 2008 and 2012. Obama and the Democrats made it clear that John McCain and Mitt Romney were their favorites to be the Republican candidates in 2008 and 2012, respectively.  The GOPe failed to understand what was going on, that Obama was wisely choosing the candidate he thought would be the easiest to defeat.  Obama and the Democrats know something the GOPe has a hard getting through their thick heads. That is the peculiar tendency of Republican voters to simply not vote when they are disenchanted with the Republican candidate. In a close election is only takes a few hundred thousand voters on either side to opt out for the other side to win.  In 2012 it is estimated that 4 million Republicans didn’t vote because they didn’t like Mitt Romney. Add to this the algorithms the Democrats had by then perfected for using social media to get their voters to turn out and vote, and you have an election that favors Democrats. Thankfully, some of the GOP candidates, Ted Cruz especially, have now figured out how to use the same social media techniques perfected by Democrats. Now if only the GOPe will get on board and help us save the liberty the American founding fathers tried to give us.
